Disclaimer
Version date: October 13, 2026
This disclaimer applies to BetterOne Console Server (the “Software”). Read and understand the following before using it. Chinese edition.
1. Purpose
The Software provides serial device access, console server functions, remote terminals, device management, serial-to-network forwarding, and related utilities.
You must have authority to access and manage the connected servers, switches, routers, embedded devices, test equipment, or other hardware. Do not use the Software to access another party's devices, systems, or networks without authorization.
2. Risks of use
Device consoles may provide privileged access. Incorrect commands can restart devices, change configuration, interrupt networks or services, lose data, prevent devices from booting, or stop production systems.
Users must establish appropriate authentication, access permissions, operational auditing, and backups. The Licensor cannot control commands entered through the console server and is not responsible for the consequences of operating connected equipment, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
3. Hardware compatibility
Supported serial ports, USB serial chipsets, USB controllers, operating systems, drivers, and hardware platforms may change between versions. A model or chipset that usually works does not guarantee identical behavior across hardware, firmware, driver or operating system versions, USB hubs, or virtualization environments. Test thoroughly before deployment.
Cables, adapters, and chipsets
Use serial cables, USB serial adapters, and USB hubs from reputable manufacturers and legitimate suppliers. Counterfeit or unknown products may have missing or duplicate serial numbers, be rejected or modified by drivers, lose or corrupt data, use inaccurate baud rates, repeatedly disconnect, have inadequate power, use incompatible voltage levels, or lack isolation and protection.
Users bear the risks and responsibility for identification errors, binding to the wrong port, lost data, interrupted communication, or equipment damage caused by such products. The Software cannot guarantee correct operation with them.
4. USB and serial identification
The Software may identify ports using COM names, tty devices, USB VID/PID, USB serial numbers, USB topology, device IDs, and system device paths supplied by the operating system, drivers, and hardware.
Replacing hardware, moving USB connections, changing hubs, updating drivers or operating systems, or changing firmware can alter these identifiers. The Software cannot guarantee that third-party port names, COM numbers, or physical paths remain unchanged indefinitely.
5. Networks and remote access
Availability can be affected by network failures, firewalls, NAT, DNS, TLS/SSL, VPNs, routing, operating system network settings, and third-party network equipment. The Licensor cannot guarantee that every remote connection remains available in every environment.
6. Data and configuration
Back up important device settings, Software configuration, and business data. Critical production systems should not rely on a single application, server, or console server as their only access method. Keep an alternative management path for critical environments.
7. Production deployments
Successful operation of the free edition or in a test environment does not guarantee trouble-free production operation. Before a large deployment, perform functional, stability, long-duration, network failure, device unplug/replug, restart, permission, and security tests appropriate to your environment.
8. Third-party equipment
Third-party product names, company names, and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Unless expressly stated, the Software has no agency, authorization, partnership, or endorsement relationship with these vendors. References to third-party products explain compatibility or technical identification only.
9. Security
We make reasonable efforts to fix known defects and security vulnerabilities, but no software can guarantee absolute security. Users must use strong passwords, restrict management access, configure firewalls, install appropriate updates, limit privileged accounts, and apply additional protection to public Internet access.
Raw TCP and Telnet have no application-level authentication and transmit plaintext. Default HTTP/WS listeners do not enable TLS; HTTPS can be enabled by configuring certificates. Only a small set of endpoints, such as health, version, and license summaries, allow anonymous reads. Web login does not automatically protect these protocols or anonymous endpoints. A new database requires initial administrator password setup before management functions are available. Existing deployments should review account passwords.
Restrict listening addresses and network access; prefer SSH. Configure HTTPS/WSS or a TLS proxy or equivalent secure channel as needed. Include anonymous API endpoints in proxy and network access controls.
On serial failures and recovery, the Software inserts status text into client data streams. Clients using binary protocols must recognize this text rather than treat it as device data.
Do not expose console server management directly to the public Internet without authentication, access controls, or network isolation.
10. Indirect losses
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Licensor is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses from use or inability to use the Software, including business interruption, production stoppage, lost profits, lost data, network interruption, damaged device configuration, customer claims, or third-party losses.
This does not exclude or limit liability that applicable law does not permit to be excluded or limited.
11. Testing responsibility
Use the free edition to assess hardware, operating system, USB serial, and network compatibility and whether functions meet your needs. Complete reasonable tests before purchase and production deployment according to your business risks. Purchase itself does not establish that testing has been completed.
12. Final provisions
Technical documentation, configuration examples, and information from support staff assist product use; they do not guarantee a particular outcome in your production environment. Maintain backups, redundancy, security, and risk controls appropriate to your operations.
